One of the most consequential changes for non-resident hunters is that the 10-day non-resident hunting license can no longer be used for turkey hunting. While the 10-day license is still offered for general hunting, it is not valid for the take of wild turkeys.

Learning From Failure: Why the Process Matters More Than the Outcome in Hunting
By: Justin "MrJayCam" Campbell | Equalized Outdoors The view from the bottom At this time of year, with most seasons now over, it’s easy to drift into a state of reflection. Some of us began the season with specific goals, and some of us achieved them. The reality is, regardless of what you see on social media, there is also a segment among us that did not—and that is okay too. We live in a society full of highlight reels, grip-and-grins, and what feels like an endless carous

2026 Non-Resident Big Game Application Dates | Elk, Mule Deer & Whitetail
As the new year approaches, non-resident hunters begin shifting focus from the previous season to application deadlines, unit research, and early e-scouting for the fall ahead. For elk, mule deer, and whitetail deer, many Western states open or close non-resident application windows between January and June, requiring early organization and clear planning.

Is it really Fair Chase?
Let me be clear, because I can already hear the cries, as it stands, there is nothing currently illegal about taking an animal from “long range”.
So, while not illegal, it’s certainly fair to question the ethics of it at the very least. It’s also a significant point of internal conflict for me, because historically, I tend to lean towards the side of ‘if it’s legal, then have at it.’ When it comes to long-range hunting, I can’t say for sure that remains the case.

Texas We Have a Problem: Spring Turkey
As we head towards another new year, and deer seasons around the country begin to conclude, the anticipation of another spring begins to fill the mind. For some, the thought of spring is never far. It is always there, living rent-free in the afflicted minds.

Sound Off Sundays | Burna Boy Bank On It
Bank On It represents a pivotal stretch of Burna Boy’s career and the version of him that really pulled me in. The name African Giant came from a moment of disrespect—his name printed so small on his first Coachella poster that he couldn’t even find it.

Friday Night Bites Turkey Orzo Soup
This isn’t a flashy recipe. It’s simple, filling, and built around making use of leftovers while slowing things down after a long stretch. It’s the kind of meal that does what it’s supposed to do—warm you up and carry you into the next day.

A Practical Gift Guide for Non-Hunters
Buying gifts for hunters can be frustrating, especially for non-hunters. The truth is, most hunting gear is highly specialized. Arrows, broadheads, optics, and even clothing choices are often dialed to the individual. Guessing can be expensive—and unnecessary.

Beans Belong in Chili — And It’s Time We Admit It
For reasons no one can fully explain, this country has managed to sustain a low-grade cultural cold war over a bowl of meat, peppers, and spices. And as a Texas transplant myself, I’ve heard every version of the “no beans” argument you can imagine.

Mathews ARC 34 — First Impressions From a Rocky Start
November brings excitement for a multitude of reasons, especially if you’re a bowhunter. There’s the pre-rut, then the rut — that magical time in the whitetail woods, in most of the country anyway, where anything is possible. Giant bucks can be had, and encounters begin to peak. The playing field is as level as it will ever be between the novice and the experienced hunter.

What the New Idaho 2026 Nonresident Tag Draw Means for Nonresidents and Disabled American Veteran (DAV) Hunters
Idaho is entering a significant new era for nonresident big-game hunting. Beginning with the 2026 season, the state is replacing its long-standing first-come, first-served nonresident deer and elk tag sale with a structured drawing system. The December queue-based scramble — known for website instability, random line assignments, and hidden in-person inventory reduction — is ending.

Virginia’s Earn-A-Buck Program: A New Hunting Experience
Virginia’s Earn-A-Buck program has been around for more than a decade, but this season was my first time hunting under it, and my home county’s first year participating in the program. I’ve hunted enough to know every regulation has a purpose, but I didn’t expect this one to reshape my entire season. Coming home to Virginia to hunt land that I know more intimately than anywhere else in the world should have felt familiar
