Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has started its warm-season Neighborhood Fishin’ channel catfish stockings across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, including Chisholm Park, a centrally located site serving anglers in Euless, Bedford, and Hurst.

For residents of the Mid-Cities corridor, this represents one of the most direct public opportunities to harvest stocked fish without leaving the immediate area.

A Stocked Fishery Inside the Mid-Cities Footprint

Chisholm Park is part of TPWD’s Neighborhood Fishin’ network—urban-access waters selected specifically to support bank fishing and local participation. Channel catfish are stocked on a recurring rotation through the warm-weather season, with fish placed at catchable sizes intended for near-term angling success.

Unlike destination reservoirs, these stockings are designed to function as community-level access points within residential population centers.

A Practical Entry Point for New Anglers

Because Neighborhood Fishin’ waters are stocked with harvest-size fish and managed for accessibility, sites like Chisholm Park are often one of the most straightforward places to introduce a kid—or any first-time angler—to fishing.

They offer:

  • predictable stocking activity

  • easy shoreline access

  • shorter trip times than regional reservoirs

  • realistic chances of bringing fish home

For families interested in learning the full process—from catching to cleaning and preparing fish—these community stockings create a controlled and approachable starting point.

Channel catfish stocked through this program are intended for harvest and consumption, making them a reliable option for anglers looking to bring home locally caught fish from a managed public water source.

Regulations for Neighborhood Fishing

No Gear Required: Tackle Loaner Kits Available in Hurst

For families or first-time anglers who don’t yet own equipment, Chisholm Park is supported locally through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Tackle Loaner Program, with rod-and-reel kits available through the Hurst Public Library.

The program allows residents to check out fishing gear at no cost, lowering one of the most common barriers to getting started. Combined with scheduled Neighborhood Fishin’ catfish stockings, it creates a rare situation where anglers can:

  • borrow equipment locally

  • fish within minutes of home

  • target harvestable stocked fish

  • introduce kids to fishing without upfront investment

TPWD maintains tackle loaner sites statewide specifically to support community access at locations like Chisholm Park.
